  • Brand logo & Packshot - Vanogard™ 500 mg/ Vanogard™1000 mg.
  • Composition - Each vial contains Vancomycin Hydrochloride IP (sterile) equivalent to Vancomycin 500 mg/1000 mg.
  • Description - Vancomycin is a tricyclic glycopeptide antibiotic derived from Amycolatopsis orientalis (formerly Nocardia orientalis). The bactericidal action of vancomycin results primarily from inhibition of cell-wall biosynthesis. In addition, vancomycin alters bacterial-cell-membrane permeability and RNA synthesis. Vancomycin has been shown to be active against most strains of Gram-positive microorganisms. Vancomycin is not active in vitro against gram-negative bacilli, mycobacteria, or fungi. There is no cross resistance between vancomycin and other antibiotics.
  • Indications & Usage - Vanogard is indicated in Endocarditis, osteomyelitis, pneumonia, septicaemia and skin and soft tissue infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. When selecting antibiotics for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis, the physician or dentist should read the full joint statement of the American Heart Association and the American Dental Association.
  • Dosage & administration - The usual adult I.V. dose is 500 mg every 6 hours or 1 g every 12 hours, in Sodium Chloride 0.9% solution, Dextrose 5%. Each dose should be administered at no greater than 10 mg/min or over a period of at least 60 minutes, whichever is longer. Other patient factors, such as age or obesity, may call for modification of the usual I.V. daily dose. Paediatrics - The usual I.V. dosage is 10 mg/kg per dose given every6 hours (total daily dosage 40 mg/kg of body weight). Each dose should be administered over a period of at least 60 minutes. In neonates and young infants, the total daily dosage may be lower. An initial dose of 15 mg/kg is suggested, followed by 10 mg/kg every 12 hours in the first week of life and every 8 hours thereafter until one month of age. Each dose should be administered over a period of at least 60 minutes.
  • Storage conditions - Prior to reconstitution store below 25°C. After reconstitution, the reconstituted solution may be stored in the refrigerator (2°C - 8°C). Reconstituted solutions diluted with 5% Dextrose injection, Sterile Water for Injection, or 0.9% sodium chloride injection is stable for 14 days if kept refrigerated. (2°C - 8°C) vancomycin solution is stable for 96 hours under refrigeration when diluted with following dilution fluids: 5% dextrose and normal saline. Lactated Ringer's Injection.
