  • Description - Posaconazole is an azole antifungal agent available as gastro-resistant tablet for oral administration. Posaconazole inhibits the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase (CYP51), which catalyses an essential step in ergosterol biosynthesis. It has shown in vitro to be active against - Aspergillus species, Candida species, Coccidioides immitis, Fonsecaea pedrosoi and species of Fusarium, Rhizomucor, Mucor, and Rhizopus.
  • Indications & Usage - Posaconazole gastro-resistant tablets are indicated for prophylaxis of invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in patients who are at high risk of developing these infections due to being severely immunocompromised, such as hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or those with hematologic malignancies with prolonged neutropenia from chemotherapy. Posaconazole gastro-resistant tablets are indicated in patients 13 years of age and older.
  • Dosage & administration - Prophylaxis of invasive fungal infections - Loading dose of 300 mg (three 100 mg tablets) twice a day on the first day, then 300 mg (three 100 mg tablets) once a day thereafter. Each dose may be taken without regard to food intake. Duration of therapy is based on recovery from neutropenia or immunosuppression. For patient with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia or Myelodysplastic Syndromes, prophylaxis with Posaconazole should start several days before the anticipated onset of neutropenia and continue for 7 days after the neutrophil count rises above 500 cells per mm3.
  • Storage conditions - Picocord GR is available in blister pack of 10 tablets. Product to be stored at temperature not exceeding 30oC. Protect from light.
