  • Description - Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. The bactericidal activity of Meropenem results from the inhibition of cell wall synthesis. Meropenem readily penetrates the cell wall of most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria to reach penicillin-binding-protein (PBP) targets. Sulbactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor. This drug is given in combination with β-lactam antibiotics to inhibit β-lactamase, an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics. Sulbactam in the Meropenem and Sulbactam for Injection formulation effectively extends the antibiotic spectrum of Meropenem to include many bacteria normally resistant.
