  • Composition - Each vial contains Colistimethate Sodium 1/2/3/4.5 MIU Inj.
  • Description - Colistimethate is a cyclic polypeptide antibacterial agent belonging to the Polymyxin group. Polymyxin work by damaging the cell membrane and the resulting physiological effects are lethal to the bacterium. Polymyxins are selective for aerobic Gram negative bacteria that have a hydrophobic outer membrane. Colistin is derived from bacteria of the genus Paenibacillus. Colistin is also known as Polymyxin E.
  • Indications & Usage - By intravenous administration-indicated in adults and children including neonates for the treatment of serious infections due to selected aerobic Gram-negative pathogens in patients with limited treatment options. By inhalation-indicated for the management of adult and paediatric chronic pulmonary infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with cystic fibrosis.
  • Dosage & administration - For injection/infusion: Adults and adolescents: Maintenance dose 9MIU/day in 2-3 divided doses. In patients who are critically ill, a loading dose of 9 MIU should be administered. For inhalation: Children (<2 years of Age): 500,000 to 1 MIU twice daily; Children (>2 Years of Age) and Adults: 1-2 MIUs twice daily.
